5 Myths about Car Window Tinting

Car window tinting is a popular addition to many cars, and it does have some benefits. However, there are also a lot of myths about car window tinting that many people believe. To help clear up confusion, here are five common myths and the facts that debunk them.

1. Car Window Tinting Is Only Cosmetic

While car window tinting does look aesthetically pleasing, there are benefits aside from simply a cosmetic boost. High-quality window tints can block around 99% of UV rays, which can protect your interior from fading and your skin from UV damage. Tints can also block 40-60% of solar heat, which can help keep your car cooler on hot summer days.

2. Car Window Tints Will Discolor Eventually

While low-quality window tints can experience bubbling or discoloration after a period of time, high-quality window tints won’t be impeded by these issues. Coupled with professional installation, and you can expect your window tints to last for a long time.

3. Tinted Windows Can’t Be Broken

In some emergency cases, being able to break your window can be a lifesaver. However, some people believe that window tints make this impossible. Thankfully, this is untrue. Although, when it comes to thieves breaking into your cars, it can have some benefits, despite still being breakable. For instance, it can prevent them from being able to see valuables inside, making your car a lesser target.

4. Car Window Tinting Is Illegal

Tinted windows are not illegal, although some states have different requirements that you have to be aware of. For instance, the front side windows must allow in over 33% of visible light, in Arizona. In California, no tinting, of any shade, is allowed on the front windshield, and the side windows must have a minimum of 70% visible light. Depending on where you live, you will need to know these regulations before seeking out car window tinting.

5. Car Window Tinting Lowers Value

Unless you have low-quality window tinting installed, window tinting can actually increase the value of your car, as opposed to decreasing it. However, if you change your mind about tinting, it can always be safely removed before selling.

If you are thinking about tinting your car windows, keep in mind that not everything you’ve heard is true. While these myths are just five of many, the facts are something you should always double-check before taking a rumor at face value.
